   Henry Rouyer
Henry Rouyer celebrated his 80th birthday in March. This anniversary is the occasion to consecrate him an exhibition with an inedited character, the majority of the works being shown for the first time.
Born in Vevey in 1928, Rouyer attends the classes of the Collège of St Maurice in the Valais, before leaving for Paris where he studied philosophy at the
Sorbonne. At the same time he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts. Since these days, he lives and works in the French capital where during the Eighties and the Nineties he acquires an international recognition, confirmed by the numerous prices and medals he is granted.

His success is bound to the originality of his technique. On the raw canvas, he applies a sort of fluid magma which originates between his hands and fingers, consisting in a sort of mixture of colours, glue, rumpled sheets of silk paper and metal. The creative forces which are inhabiting him are directly transmitted to the canvas. Under the impulse of his hands, the painting suddenly takes form, life and spirit. On the subtlety coloured fields, showing an irregular surface, he is inscribing little signs with liquid wax or white paint. The artist is totally immerging himself into his creative act and transmits to the painting his instant happiness, pains, anguishes, hopes…

The works exhibited, les Fenêtres, - a theme in the center of his researches since almost twenty years -, open on the world, the world of all the possibles : the infinite, the universal, the absolute. The window is for Rouyer a way to communicate with the outside by the mean of colour, of utmost importance to him since he said once that he “has replaced the words by colour”.
The window allows him to observe the outside, penetrate the inside, experience the reality, dream the imaginary, even the virtual. The window of Rouyer open on poetic, metaphysic landscapes, totally detached from figuration. They open on close or distant fields, they look at day to day events, in the city, in the street, through the window of a private home, a train, a car, an airplane…
Rouyer is this observer, of the close and the distant, of the inside and the outside, of the living and the feeling, of the real and the imaginary, of the poetry, the heart and the spirit, and it is these windows he is showing us generously.

Rouyer has exhibited in Europe, the United States and Japan. During fifteen years (1985-2000) he was in charge of the Presidency of the Association des Peintres, Sculpteurs et Architectes suisse de Paris (APSAS). Numerous awards : two silver medals (1982 : Paris ; Europe/USA), Gold medal (1985, Paris). First price of the international festival in Osaka (1983)
